Bernhardt, Sarah

Bernhardt, Sarah (1844 – 1923), a famous French artist, performed on the French stage since 1867 and enjoyed tremendous success from the very beginning of her stage career. In the 70s and 80s Sarah Bernhardt toured many cities in Europe and America, as well as Russia, where she travelled more than once later. Sarah Bernhardt has performed with equal success in classical tragedy and modern drama. Her most famous roles are in "Sphinx" by Feuillet, "Lady with Camellias" by Dumas, "Phaedra" by Racine, "L'Aiglon" by Rostand.[Trotsky, Sochineniya, Vol 4, note 6]
